It involves monthly payment of PLN 500 for each second and subsequent child in the family. If the income per person does not exceed PLN 800, the benefit is also payable for the first child. The program it has been functioning since 2016 in the presented formula (currently it is planned to extend the support to all children, regardless of the income criterion), so it is now possible to undertake research on its short-term effects. The program is aimed at families with children under the age of 18, regardless of place of residence and social status, however, it plays a specific role in rural areas, where social problems and the family model are slightly different than in urban areas. First of all, there is a disposable income disparity in the countryside, and fertility rate is higher. Therefore, research was undertaken to indicate the effects of the 500+ Program and the opinion of its beneficiaries living in rural areas. As an example, the rural commune of Duszniki, located in the Wielkopolska Region was selected. First, the authors of the paper analyzed data from the Commune Social Welfare Center, which is the program administrator at the local level. Second, they conducted a survey on a sample of 100 parents who expressed their opinions on the functioning of the program. As a result of the research, it was noticed that in the analyzed commune a significant part of the beneficiaries use support for the first child, which indicates a fairly large poverty range. On the other hand, the surveys have shown that the funds granted help to raise children, although they do not cover the necessary expenses in full. For the most part, they are devoted to the basic needs of children, such as food, clothing and education. Also, the authors noted a dangerous phenomenon of women’s professional deactivation after the introduction of the program. In addition, the research pointed to the existence of a specific form of “free riding” – respondents to a small extent declared the enlargement of the family after the introduction of the program, although they believed that on a national scale it will contribute to the increase in total fertility rate."}},{"node":{"title":"Aspects of Business Development in Rural Areas and Amenity Migration as a Potential for Economic Growth of Rural Area","slug":"aspects-of-business-development-in-rural-areas-and-amenity-migration-as-a-potenti","author":[{"name":"Veronika Vorobljevová"},{"name":"Marie Novotná"}],"volume":{"name":"Volume 17","year":2020,"no":17,"title":"???/","editor":[{"name":"Tomáš Hlavsa"},{"name":"Barbara Wieliczko"}],"slug":"volume-17"},"pageFrom":43,"pageTo":54,"pdf":{"url":"https://www.datocms-assets.com/20305/1619008018-03vorobljevanovotna.pdf","title":null},"abstract":"The concept of this article builds upon works dealing with current issues in the area of forms of business in rural areas, i.e. the theoretical background for research of rural areas from business perspective. Additional sources come from works regarding amenity migration, for it is particularly this group of new residents who can introduce new business directions to rural areas and creatively harness the potential for various economic activities. The objective is to assess the business development opportunities in rural areas and the related influence of amenity migrants. It is necessary to include other aspects in this debate, such as social cohesion, education and economic growth. The basis for the evaluation of the findings of this research consists of structured interviews with members of local and regional authorities, which serve to obtain in-depth and detailed information. The questionnaire is structured in such a way so as not to interfere with the overall quality and value of the research. The results of the research so far confirmed that there is a certain technological development associated with rural areas, be it in areas of transport, communication technologies, digitization, or transformation technologies (Binek, 2007). This fact translates not only into a larger number of job opportunities, but also into a larger space for business, economy, geoFigurey, and sociology (Pato, Teixeira, 2016)."}},{"node":{"title":"Accessibility of regional centre in the light of the number of used public transport lines: transport-disadvantaged rural areas from central Slovakia","slug":"accessibility-of-regional-centre-in-the-light-of-the-number-of-used-public-transp","author":[{"name":"Vladimír Székely"},{"name":"Ján Novotný"}],"volume":{"name":"Volume 17","year":2020,"no":17,"title":"???/","editor":[{"name":"Tomáš Hlavsa"},{"name":"Barbara Wieliczko"}],"slug":"volume-17"},"pageFrom":55,"pageTo":69,"pdf":{"url":"https://www.datocms-assets.com/20305/1619008264-04szekelynovotny.pdf","title":null},"abstract":"Town of Banská Bystrica, the middle-size regional centre (less than 80 thousand inhabitants) from central Slovakia has an eccentric geographical position in relation to the rest of the rural self-governing region of Banská Bystrica. This reality has an important impact on the public transport management from the perspective of the region and individual providers. The aim of the study is to identify municipalities and areas of this region which inhabitants are marginalised or excluded from using the public transport services to/from their regional centre. We used the concept of “daily accessibility” together with a priori accepted condition from the perspective of potential travellers about “the longest stay time in regional centre” as the decisive criteria for delimitation of territories (transport-disadvantaged areas), which inhabitants suffer not only from public transport exclusion, but also from the greater number of transport vehicle changes and used public transport lines (connections) during the return journey. Electronic database of train and bus timetables was used by procedure for obtaining the information about studied characteristics for return journey during 24 hours of working days (Wednesday) and the rest of the week (Sunday)."}},{"node":{"title":"Service-Driven Farming: Keeping Quality of Life for Ageing Rural Community","slug":"service-driven-farming-keeping-quality-of-life-for-ageing-rural-community","author":[{"name":"Živilė Gedminaitė-Raudonė"},{"name":"Dalia Vidickiene"}],"volume":{"name":"Volume 17","year":2020,"no":17,"title":"???/","editor":[{"name":"Tomáš Hlavsa"},{"name":"Barbara Wieliczko"}],"slug":"volume-17"},"pageFrom":70,"pageTo":80,"pdf":{"url":"https://www.datocms-assets.com/20305/1630999021-05raudonevidickiene.pdf","title":null},"abstract":"Early retirement from farming was proposed by many of the EU measures. The age structure in the EU currently demands a shift from such an outdated approach, and to focus on the highly-valued experiences of elderly people, which should be utilized by involving them in social and economic activities. Among the key challenges for rural development policy aiming to increase the quality of life of elderly, next to the traditional help and support measures, is the involvement of the elder generation in economic and social life. Therefore, the new EU agricultural policy measures should ensure that funding and institutional incentives support extending the working and active social life of the elderly farmers. One of the possible ways to change such an approach deals with servitization. The literature on servitization in manufacturing has been growing rapidly in the last decades, but only a few studies demonstrate how to apply a service-driven business model in agriculture. This paper aims to demonstrate a creative way to use a service-driven business model in farming and, at the same time, the ability of servitization projects to influence the vitality of rural communities by generating economic, social, and cultural effects. A case study on an innovative servitization initiative in rural areas of Lithuania “Rent a piece of garden” is used as a theory generating approach, which considers the needs of the elderly rural generation."}},{"node":{"title":"The Principles of Agribusiness Social Responsibility From Farmer’s Point of View: Lithuanian Case","slug":"the-principles-of-agribusiness-social-responsibility-from-farmer-s-point-of-view","author":[{"name":"Rita Vilkė"},{"name":"Živilė Gedminaitė-Raudonė"}],"volume":{"name":"Volume 17","year":2020,"no":17,"title":"???/","editor":[{"name":"Tomáš Hlavsa"},{"name":"Barbara Wieliczko"}],"slug":"volume-17"},"pageFrom":81,"pageTo":89,"pdf":{"url":"https://www.datocms-assets.com/20305/1630999248-06vilkeraudone.pdf","title":null},"abstract":"The phenomena of corporate social responsibility (CSR) had been widely discussed from different scientific and practical perspectives worldwide for almost a century. In its initial phase, the main focus was the demand for social responsibilities from businesses in general. Recently, all sectors and all spheres of human activity consider the importance and use of social responsibility, including agribusiness. This study aims to elucidate the importance of the principles of agribusiness social responsibility from a farmer’s point of view. The guiding question of the research is whether a farmer’s gender, next to the other background characteristics (age, generation, education, etc.), is among the factors that shape the way farmers understand the importance of the principles of agribusiness social responsibility. The research results, based on representative survey data of Lithuanian farmers (N=1108), propose that gender might be considered among the factors that shape farmers’ understanding of the principles of agribusiness social responsibility and this makes a promising background for further research."}},{"node":{"title":"Long-term vision of rural areas in Hungary, focusing on foresights","slug":"long-term-vision-of-rural-areas-in-hungary-focusing-on-foresights","author":[{"name":"Vásáry Viktória"},{"name":"Szabolcs Biró"}],"volume":{"name":"Volume 17","year":2020,"no":17,"title":"???/","editor":[{"name":"Tomáš Hlavsa"},{"name":"Barbara Wieliczko"}],"slug":"volume-17"},"pageFrom":90,"pageTo":104,"pdf":{"url":"https://www.datocms-assets.com/20305/1630999813-07vasarybiro.pdf","title":null},"abstract":"The Horizon 2020 SHERPA (Sustainable Hub to Engage into Rural Policies with Actors) project has made a contribution on behalf of 20 different Multi-Actor Platforms (MAPs) to the preparation of a new long-term vision for rural areas initiated by the European Commission. The Hungarian MAP – one of the groups of science-society-policy actors – chose the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS), more precisely digitalisation, as its flagship topic due to the fact that it is a horizontal issue and it is embedded even into the Common Agricultural Policy’s (CAP) strategic planning process. Thus, the development of AKIS requires close and intensive cooperation of policy makers, researchers and farmers or – in broader context – the society with various stakeholders.\nThe aim of the Hungarian research team was to identify the current and likely trends for the Hungarian rural areas and to point out key challenges, opportunities, enablers and barriers in rural development in terms of digitalisation up to 2040.\nThe methodology used was the Delphi technique. In the first phase, a review of key trends, main challenges and opportunities and a summary of existing foresight regarding digital agriculture was written. Then AKIS experts were asked to talk about their experiences and opinions in the framework of interviews, a focus group meeting and a survey. In the end, results of the survey were discussed in a consensus meeting.\nAmong the results, it is worth mentioning that digitisation and digitalisation will fundamentally change how rural areas operate including economic, environmental and social dimensions. The main enablers of a promising future vision are capacity building for knowledge transfer, adaptation for job creation and offering better quality of life, stronger community building for collaborations, deeper government involvement, and last but not least, strengthening the local identity in rural areas. ocial responsibility and this makes a promising background for further research."}}]}},"pageContext":{"slug":"volume-17"}},"staticQueryHashes":["2036182386","3000541721"]}
